THE JOURNEY

When you net it all out what most of us really want is to matter, to be loved, to share love, to be good at something, to have purpose, and to have hope. Our past and current emotional and physical battles are enduring but with the right support and direction our lives can be improved and empowered. We all have our own story, our own perspectives, our own strengths, and our own stressors.

But what we all have in common is a profound struggle to control, to limit, to stop thinking about and eating our addicting foods. This unique addiction has occupied way too much of our lives, energy, mood, health, and identity. The combination of two very powerful forces, our own dysregulated body chemistry and an unrelenting juggernaut of “food/drug” dealers on and in between every corner, makes weight loss and sustaining overwhelming and truly diabolically difficult. It’s truly an “unfair fight.”

We can’t undo the past, but we can and will create a new reality, learning and utilizing new skills that empower all of us to regain control and give us a fighting chance.

ABOUT US (Behavioral Medicine Weight Management)

First, let me state that there are countless dedicated professionals who have created wonderful programs helping you battle your obesity. Behavioral Medicine Weight Management (BMWM) is equally dedicated to your success. We are not in competition with any program or philosophy. Programs such as Weight Watchers, Paleo, Keto, Atkins, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, Food Fuels, and Brightline Eating, to name a few, all have incredible benefits. After years of “getting it wrong about fat,” the science is overwhelming that foods that increase insulin (dominated by processed flour, processed corn, and refined sugar) have flooded our culture, restaurants, fridges, snacks, and our MINDS. And it makes us obese and addicted. Simply put, way less processed flour and sugar foods, and way more foods with protein, nutrients, and fiber is all our mission.

As a practicing psychologist, Behavioral Medicine Weight Management (BMWM) is built on years of clinical experience working one-on-one and in groups empowering clients to improving their health and obesity battles. I have learned from so many clients as well as other dedicated professionals along this journey. My own personal battles with addiction, treating addiction, treating anxiety and depression, and sharing with so many wonderful people in their life struggles have given me tremendous humility. But most importantly it has empowered me to give it my all and share in this fight together. Clearly there is no trick, medicine, and/or technique to “easily” win this battle, but nothing makes our team more excited to share in your successes.

FOOD NOTES

Every healthy road leads to eating as little processed flour and sugar as possible. That is, less and less and less bread, crackers, bagels, muffins, pasta, pizza, pretzels, potato chips, French fries, all fast food, granola, cookies, candy, cake, sweets, coffee cake, ice cream, snack foods, sugar soda, fruit yogurt and the list goes on…

Do you have “food” addiction?

NO! But you may have an addiction to specific foods.
You most likely don’t have an addiction to asparagus and grilled chicken.
But you may have an addiction to processed flour and sugar type of foods, also known as highly palatable foods.

Can you forever abstain from your trigger foods similarly to an alcoholic abstaining from their preferred alcoholic drink? That is, some alcoholics successfully maintain their sobriety and work their recovery program for their entire lives without a relapse. It’s hard but some do it.

So, is it possible to never eat your trigger addicting foods again?
Unlikely!
You will end up time to time eating foods that activate your brain and memory to want more and more and throw you off your healthy meal plan way too long.

  • THE JOURNEY AND FIGHT IS MORE LIKE ADDICTION MANAGEMENT THAN ADDICTION ABSTINENCE.
  • THE GOAL IS TO DEVELOP AND EXECUTE YOUR WHOLE FOOD MEAL PLAN EVERYDAY.
  • THE LONGER YOU GO WITHOUT EATING YOUR TRIGGER/ADDICTING FOODS THEY BECOME LESS POWERFUL OVER YOU.
  • THE LONGER YOU DEVELOP IMPROVED EATING PATTERNS YOUR ABILITY TO ORGANIZE, MAKE CHOICES, AND GET BACK ON YOUR MEAL PLAN GETS EASIER.
  • YOU BECOME MORE EMPOWERED AND SKILLED, AND YOU AND YOUR WEIGHT REMAIN IN CONTROL!
